final post
Well, this is it. The last blog post and I am a little sad about it. I really enjoyed pushing myself and reading a book a week. It gave me structure and a way to hit my reading goals and diving deeper into different novels. Some that I never would have read otherwise and I found myself enjoying it a lot too. The way this course is set up ensures you are ready to succeed and if you don’t think you are up for the challenge of reading a book a week, you are able to accommodate that and the grade you get is essentially what you put into the course. I found myself getting excited to sit down and read because it was an escape from my other classes and it was being productive while also taking a break from either stats or my almost full time bartending job.
Every book was unique in its own way but had a similar theme in all of them which was the protagonist trying to or finding themselves throughout the novel. Between each book, it never fully felt that I was reading from a whole new perspective or character, it almost felt as if the protagonist was jumping from novel to novel and telling a new story. There were some books that I definitely did not think I was going to enjoy but ended up being my favourites (and others stayed not being my favourite) but every book took me on a journey outside of my reality which is why I enjoyed this class so much.
All books also shared a theme in which their environment played a factor in how they viewed the world or how they turned out which was cool to see from novel to novel. It was also quite eye-opening in how much it shapes a person and was a reason I started looking at my reality in a different lens and had me analyzing different people in my life as if I were to for a novel. Kinda cool. But as it was mentioned in a class or two that every person is reading a different novel. Because depending on everyone’s experiences and places they were born and interests or whatever reason, they relate to the book in a different way and maybe understand different perspectives more deeply than others and therefore, everyone got a different version of the book.
This is another factors that I will miss about the course is the weekly check-ins, and actually hearing everyone’s different perspectives in class and gaining an even more in-depth understanding of the novel by listening and talking to other people.
I really hope I can take some habits from this class and continue to read (maybe not one book a week) but at least 2 a month and keep these good habits going.
"I started looking at my reality in a different lens and had me analyzing different people in my life" I like this reflection! I did this sometimes, more so through a psychological lens because of my studies. Sometimes I even compared my friends to characters to remember them better for quizzes. Most of the time, though, I couldn't since the characters were too unique!

I also quite enjoyed the challenge this class brought! I navigated my own schedule and found strategies to help me stay on top of all my work, especially because the course has a very flexible structure. Thank you!

totally agree that some books took me by surprise! I like that about these book. Even though, they share similar themes, we get to explore a nee angle of said theme.
